Joe Bark SUP Stand Up Paddle Board Factory Tour and New Race Boards

bark-factory-tour-14

Joe Bark is one of the dominant shapers for paddleboards and stand up paddle race boards. On a recent trip to California I stopped by his factory and Joe gave me a quick tour. I found the address for the factory but it was a series of warehouse buildings, many without any signs. Just as I was going to call Joe to ask which one he was in, I saw a huge pile of foam. At that point, I knew I found the right place. Joe also spent some time showing the new boards he’s working on and how he tests their performance. I took a few pictures but the videos will give you a personal tour of the factory.

C4 Waterman SUP Demo Day at REI Video

I know this is a promotional video but it does a great job at showing how excited people get when they first SUP and how accessible this sport is becoming. This is one of the best promotional videos I’ve seen so far. This was shot in Seattle, Washington.

2009 Battle of the Paddle SUP Race

2009-battle-of-the-paddle-001

I was fortunate to be able to attend this year’s Battle of the Paddle, not as a racer but as a spectator. The thought of cold water, unfamiliar territory, logistics of equipment, etc didn’t make me want to race. I had a great time shooting pics and video and got a chance to see a lot of the movers and shakers in the SUP industry. Then my camera battery died. Oh well. I know this took a while to post but here it is. I didn’t get that many pictures of the races because I was shooting video so if you want to see the races, please watch the videos.

New Video of 6 Foot SUP

Kainoa Beaupre sent over this video of him on his little mini SUP. At 200 lbs, I’d probably sink it to the ocean floor but Kainoa’s about the size of my 6 year old so it floats him just fine…just kidding. Check out the video.

Zane Schweitzer at the 2009 Battle of the Paddle

Shawneen Schweitzer sent us this race recap of the 2009 Battle of the Paddle. Thanks Shaween!

Aloha;

Here is the report from the Battle of the Paddle. It was an incredible event, over three hundred competitors and lots of fun (and a bit of carnage). With what seemed like a thousand spectators on the beach, the SURF EXPO and the top SUP racers in the country here to compete in the 2009 Battle of the Paddle, you know it was a huge success.
