From the looks of the trailer, this is going to be a SUP movie worth seeing. I should be seeing it soon and when I do, I’ll post a review. In the meantime, here’s an interview with Mike Waltze, the producer of “That First Glide“.

These are some videos of my boys and friends surfing at Baby Queens here on Oahu, Hawaii. Why is this important to me? Well, if you’ve been coming to this site over the past years, you’ll notice that there were videos of me and my oldest son at 4 or 5 years old doing the SUP thing and then there was nothing between then and now. That’s because my boys refused to go surfing with me until early August 2011. My oldest boy is now 8.5 years old and #2 is 6 years old. It’s been a long time coming. In fact, I was wondering if they would ever want to go surfing or just make me land locked while they play baseball and soccer.

I shot these videos of Connor Baxter after he won the 2011 Duke’s Oceanfest Distance Race. Connor also won the surf race the day before and is on a pretty strong winning streak. Robert Stehlik did well too and had a great idea to interview Connor away from the crowd to get more in depth info on what keeps him winning.

Found this video on youtube that shows the size of the swell we had last week. Very cool.

I was at Waimea Bay when the Haleiwa Joe’s Race started but didn’t race. I’ve been taking some time off from paddling after my board hit me in the ribs a week and a half ago. The X-ray’s showed no break but I still can’t lie on my stomach. Hopefully I’ll be back in action in a couple weeks. Robert from Blue Planet did really well in the race and also managed to shoot some video. Check it out below:
Mark Raaphorst was en route to New York with the latest version of the S-16 Catamaran SUP and was kind enough to let Robert Stehlik (owner of Blue Planet Surf and Zen Waterman Blog) try it out while it was on Oahu. The S-16 really excels in flat water conditions when going in a straight line. It gets up to speed really quick and doesn’t take much effort to keep it there. Robert did some flat water testing so I won’t go into that too much but the area the excited me the most about this board was going upwind.

“Duke’s OceanFest – Waikiki” By Connor Baxter
The Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer at the end of August. It’s a week long celebration in honor of Duke Kahanamoku, who is the definition of The Aloha Spirit.
It’s one of the events that I have not missed since I started Stand Up Paddling! It’s a fun event with loads of people, good food and just an all around good beach day with family and friends.

SUP Event in Hood River!! By Connor Baxter
The first ever 2011 Gorge Challenge was a great, fun event. There were three different races – the Elite course race, the long distance, and the most fun part – the team relay.
The event took place in Hood River Oregon, which is one of my favorite places to go, because there is so much to do. Before the race I got to windsurf, kayak, as well as go down the rapids on a SUP board.
