We got an out of season hurricane that sent some waves to Oahu’s south shore. We’re used to the north shore pumping out huge waves in the winter but the south is normally small. Add in the light winds and we had glassy conditions. The surf was consistent and even with a large crowd there were waves for everyone.

Surfing on raceboards is a lot of fun and a great skill to practice if you want to get faster on downwind runs, it’s all about surfing the bumps. Surfing these big long boards also allows you to catch and surf waves that others can’t, which opens up all kinds of uncrowded spots and smaller waves that are barely breaking that you can catch from way outside, surf and ENJOY. Jeff at C4 sent over these photos shot by Jeff Wathell of Mana Photography of their recent session at Makaha. Most people would think twice about SUP surfing waves this size but it’s nuts on a C4 Supsquatch with 7 riders. Looks like a much better use than racing. Lol. Here’s Jeff’s recap below.
