The 14th annual Moloka’i to O’ahu Paddleboard Race Set for July 25th 2010

HONOLULU – (March 17, 2010) – Hawaii and California share a lengthy history when it comes paddleboard and the infamous Ka’iwi (Moloka’i) Channel; the first person to successfully make the crossing was California’s Gene “Tarzan” Smith back in 1938. This year, an event management group out of Encinitas, Ca. – Molokai 2 Oahu Group (M2O Group), has joined forces with local event team Epic Sports to take the race to the next level. A non-profit association has been started to promote distance paddle training. It’s called Stand Up Paddle Association of Hawaii – acronym SUPAH. To get started SUPAH will be conducting distance paddle instruction and training for novices through accomplished paddlers. Instructors signed up so far are Todd Bradley, Dave Parmenter, Scott Gamble, Aaron Napoleon, Rob Stehlik, Morgan Hoesterey, Doug Lock and Jeff Chang. REI told its merchandise buyers last year that what it needed more than ever were new, gee-whiz products to take people’s minds off the recession. So it doubled down on such items as stand-up paddle boards and slackline kits for backyard tests of balance.

March 3, 2010 (Santa Cruz, CA) – The stage is set for the 2nd Annual “Surftech SUP Shootout at the Lane”, happening March 26th – 28th. It’s been a record El Nino winter with pumping surf slamming the California coast week after week. The result of all this wave action (other than broken relationships & loss of jobs) is the massive sand bar that’s developed along the cliffs at Steamer Lane!

MARCH 1 EXTENSION COULD SEE KU IKAIKA “GO”
(Makaha, HI) – February 25, 2010 — An official one-day extension to include March 1st has been applied to the holding period of the third annual Quiksilver Ku Ikaika Challenge, presented by C4 Waterman. Competitors are asked to be on standby as organizers follow the developments of this final system that is forecast to deliver waves in the extra-large to giant category for the Hawaiian Islands on Monday – exactly what the event requires to “go”.

FINAL BATCH OF BIG SWELL HAS KU IKAIKA “ON ALERT”
(Makaha, HI) – February 22, 2010 — Another round of extra-large winter swell is developing under the watchful eye of organizers of the Quiksilver Ku Ikaika Challenge, presented by C4 Waterman, and competitors have been put “on alert” for this Thursday, February 25. The Ku Ikaika Challenge is a one-day, big wave stand-up paddle invitational surfing competition, held at Makaha Point on the West Side of Oahu, Hawaii. The event has until Sunday evening, February 28, to run before the 2010 holding period draws to a close.
