Here’s some pictures and a short video clip to show the similarities and differences between the S.I.C. F-15 and F-16. In the F series, the F-16 is a hollow molded carbon fiber 16′ SUP racer and the F-15 is a foam core hand shaped custom SUP racer. The F-16 is quite a bit lighter than the F-15 but I’m not sure on exact weights. Continue reading ‘F-15 versus F-16 – SUP racer comparison’

Doug Lock talks about the dimension and performance of the F-17′6″, and shows the Active Steering System he attached on a 15′ board.

I met up with Joe Blair initially last October at Legoland in San Diego. Joe is a very animated guy and has decades of shaping experience with legends like Dick Brewer and Xanadu. Anytime I hear a shaper tell me how good their boards are I take it with a grain of salt. I finally ordered one and have to say that everything Joe claimed is true so far.

I saw this Kahuna Creations Big Stick and Kahuna SUP Skateboard at the C4 HQ and got a quick demo from Liam (the star of the C4 promo video). He showed his moves down a steep hill and just missed eating the pavement. The ground was pretty wet so he’s trying not to slip.

I got an Infinity Surf custom quad for my birthday in November and so far have only been able to test it in small surf. I’ve been playing around with the fin configuration since there are 5 fin boxes and this board rocks!

If you saw the post a while back for the stealth C4 Waterman stand up racing board you’ll notice the resemblance to the Vortice XP. Basically, that was the Vortice XP. I got a sneak peek and demo on Wednesday with Todd Bradley from C4. I’ve got 2 words for this board – Super Fast. After riding the F-16 and the C4 prototype racing stand up paddle boards a while back I asked Todd Bradley if I could borrow the C4 boards while he went on his trip to Tahiti. Todd said that the boards were going to someone else while he was gone but I could borrow the F-16. Not a bad concession, huh? I picked up the board and finally got a chance to ride it.
The last session on the F-16 was in moderate winds and high chop. I had a hard time balancing and using the steering mechanism. I asked Jeff from Wet Feet if this was normal and he told me that it needed to be really windy to get the full effect of the F-16. On Thursday, October 25, I did a second downwind stand up paddle run with my friend Kekoa. He went on the Angulo 11′9″ and I went on Todd’s F-16. The F-16 is 16’ X 27 3/8” X 5 1/4” and the Angulo is 11′9″ X 31″ X 4.25″. Continue reading ‘F-16 Stand Up Paddle Racing Board Second Impression with Video’

I picked up an Angulo 11′9″ a week or so ago and wanted to test it as a big all around stand up paddle surfboard. Jim at Tropical Blends Surf did a super nice job of customizing the deck pads. You can see that there is a tail pad, deck pad and nose pad. This board went through a series of sessions to see what it could do. I would say it passed with flying colors.

I’ve been bugging Blane Chambers for about a month now to come to his new shop and let me get a Paddle Surf Hawaii stand up paddle surfboard. My friend Carnet can’t stop talking about the one he’s riding and how he’s buying another new one for both him and his wife so I had to go see for myself. These boards are hard to get. There aren’t many in production and they go fast so I think Carnet has been waiting a while.
It’s a funny coincidence but Blane and I worked together almost a decade ago for a short period of time. It was nice reconnecting.
I called Blane last week because North Shore has been pumping and I wanted to surf it yesterday. I thought that I’d stop by his place on the way back in to town, after my stand up paddle surf session and see what he had in his new store. It was great to get in the water this afternoon/evening after being land locked in California for a week. My friend called me last week and told me to call his buddy who would let me use his board to stand up paddle surf in California. I told him that I didn’t go to California to stand up paddle surf, I was there for other reasons. It’s too cold for my Hawaii warm blood. If I need a wetsuit, forget it. I’ve been riding the C4 Waterman 10′6″ stand up paddle surfboard for about 2 or 3 weeks now. I think I have about 15 hours on the 10′6″ for now and 6 hours on the 10′ stand up board. At 210 lbs on a good day, the 10′ board is a bit more challenging to balance on than the 10′6″ which I’m very comfortable on. The 10′ board surfs way better than anything I’ve tried so far so it’s been worth the extra effort to get the balance right. I paddled the 10′ today in 20+mph winds. Basically, paddling any size stand up paddle board is hard in winds over 15 mph. I was very pleased today in that I was able to balance on the 10′ C4 board and was fairly comfortable. I think with another 5 hours or so more of time on the 10′ board in the water I’ll be really comfortable and will have a much easier time surfing. We’ll see.
