I did this interview with Joe Bark last month over the phone. I just learned about Joe while getting more and more into the SUP distance paddling arena. Joe is famous for his paddleboards and is now expanding into stand ups. He’s got a new 14′ SUP racer coming out from Surftech in the future and we got the scoops in advance. I haven’t gotten any date for the board release but it hopefully will be by Q1 2009.

Here’s a quick view of my C4 Waterman Vortice by Boardworks. This video was done a while back. I’ve been going through all the unfinished posts that I have and found a number of them that were never posted. This is one of them.
Another stand up paddle board from Sam Pa’e. This one is an 8 footer and looks pretty cool. That colorful pad on top of the board is actually the same as those rubber pads you can buy at Home Depot. This board was much easier to stand on than his 7′10″. It’s also something like 34″ wide which makes it stable.
Here’s a short clip of my 5 year old son Buddy stand up paddling on a Surftech Blacktip. This is now his favorite board. I’ve been trying to get him on other boards for a while now but this one is like standing on land so he’s comfortable.
Brian Keaulana talks about different stand up boards. There’s also a segment in the video where he gives a lot of tips, specially for beginners. Check it out.
I just got this sneak peek from Surftech to show what’s new in 2009. This shows all the boards, current and new including the new Joe Bark 14’ racing SUP coming out sometime in 2009. These will be on display at the ASR show in September and some are just a preview.

I just got this preview from Greg over at C4. It will be debuted at the ASR Show in September but we get the sneak peek.
Check out Brian’s 8-6 board. It has a swallow tail and quad fins. This is what he rode at Noosa. Pretty sweet.
Here’s a video of the boards available for everyone to try at the Surf n Sea Demo Day.
Sander from Surftech sent over these pics from the Outdoor Retailer Expo and demo day. I spoke with Joe Bark the other day and he was thrilled at the response from everyone. All in all, I hear it was a lot of fun and more proof that stand up paddling is here to stay. I wish I was there to try all the new stuff.

I met Sam Pa’e at the Surf N Sea Demo Day and got a chance to check out his tiny stand up paddle board. I think he’s taken this in double and maybe triple overhead waves. As you will see, Sam’s not a small guy so it’s pretty unreal that he can ride this board. I tried and managed to paddle it although I spent a lot of time on my knees.
I’ve been doing a lot of downwind runs in the past 3 weeks. I just did the Hawaii Kai to Kaimana Beach (9 miles?) today. I finally did it under 2 hours and maybe that’s because I didn’t sit down as much as I normally do. Yes, I’m the lazy paddler and I realize that time is still slow. Here’s a preview of the Surftech Blacktip 9′ SUP. I have this board and it’s super fun for the whole family to use. Continue reading ‘Surftech Blacktip 9-0 Stand Up Paddle Surfboard’
Here’s a preview of the Blair 8′7″ x 30″ x 4.25″ high performance stand up board. Joe shaped this from a thinner blank than I would have liked and it feels like this board should be for a person under 200 lbs. I’ve ridden it a few times and it is definitely smaller than the 8′9″ I have.
