This is the video that Starboard’s Ekolu Kalama sent us when he got his new 14′8″ The Point which is especially designed for downwind paddling.
It’s fresh from the box and he tried it at Puena Point with the whole Kalama family. They’ve got “kona” (leeward) winds blowing bringing some swells straight into the harbor so they were able to have some downwind glides.
Catch Ekolu with his family in this video doing some downwinder.

Sandwich Island Composites gives us a preview of the 2nd generation F16 which is a proven point-to-point racing board by Mark Raaphorst. Check out what’s new with the new generation F16 .
The differences:
Rhino design and CNC cut (true curves, better symmetry)
More boxy rails. (dry feet)
Single concave with small hydro hull side panels (better stability)
Smaller pad (lighter weight)
Contoured deck (increase comfort and stability)
The board is even faster, planes out longer and is more stable
Future construction is autoclave.
Basically a lot of what is going on with the new F14.

I took this video last year during my trip to Bangkok, Thailand where I met with Starboard’s Svein Rasmussen and Margareta Engström at the Starboard HQ. While at the headquarters, Svein showed me the 9’8”x30 Tufskin Black Camo.

We have asked Mark Jackson, to give us his views on the F18. Here is the review of his two F18 boards (flat water and a channel board) both of which he is extremely pleased.
With flat water club racing and both coastal and channel crossings becoming popular, stand up race boards are becoming more exotic and user specific. Both my F18’s were designed and shaped by Mark Raaphorst and built by the Sandwich Island Composites (S.I.C ) dream team.

I’ve actually had this board for a few weeks now but this post took a while to finish. I got lucky with this F-14 SUP race board. I tried Ray Shiraishi’s custom F-14 (no rudder) during a downwind run a while back in pure epic conditions. The wind was over 20 mph and was very consistent. The swell was going in the right direction. It was at least waist high on the swell and there was a good amount of bumps and wind and it was a super fun downwinder.

I filmed 2 separate videos with Ekolu Kalama showing me his Starboard 9’0”x30” Superfish SUP board. The first video is a short one shot in the parking area of Sunset Beach. He rode this board as a quad that session. Ekolu’s been riding the 9’0” Starboard Superfish especially when he’s out in the water catching waves be it Teahupoo or Pipeline. Watch this short clip as Ekolu gets ready for a session at Sunset Beach, Hawaii.

After riding Ray Shiraishi’s F-14 in epic downwind conditions a few weeks back I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I told Ray that his F-14 (w/out rudder) would be perfect with a rudder. Last week I called Mark Raaphorst at Sandwich Island Composites (S.I.C.) to ask how long it would take to shape an F-14 and see what was new. I got lucky as it turned out another customer had ordered an F-14 carbon molded model SUP and didn’t like the color so I ordered it. I got it yesterday. This is part of the series of video clips I took from my Starboard HQ visit in Thailand. On the video is Svein Rasmussen, Starboard CEO, showing the new 8’5” x 30 board, which he said gives the rider a different perception of SUP surfing. He said that when he tried it, it gave him a good and easy surf experience. It can take on a 160 lbs. rider and will still have that ease and glide that you could get from a 10’5”, 11’2 or even a 12’6”. Continue reading ‘Starboard 8′5″ x 30″ SUP Stand Up Paddle Board’

Another video of Dave Parmenter, today with the new C4 Sling Blade 9′9″ stand up surf board. It has a very refined long board shape, a fairly neutral long board rocker, flat bottom, crisp edges, pulled in and foiled out tail. Something that your foot will build the control very easily.

Here’s another video of Dave Parmenter, this time with the new C4 Waterman 11′ Da Mooch SUP board. This 11′ has a lovely, very relaxed, neutral long board rocker. It’s something you can stand on the nose all day on and still let you make big swooping left or right turns. It’s a great San Onofre or Waikiki board. It’s unreal for long distance paddling. You can paddle miles on it and still surf.
