I was fortunate to be able to attend this year’s Battle of the Paddle, not as a racer but as a spectator. The thought of cold water, unfamiliar territory, logistics of equipment, etc didn’t make me want to race. I had a great time shooting pics and video and got a chance to see a lot of the movers and shakers in the SUP industry. Then my camera battery died. Oh well. I know this took a while to post but here it is. I didn’t get that many pictures of the races because I was shooting video so if you want to see the races, please watch the videos.

Shawneen Schweitzer sent us this race recap of the 2009 Battle of the Paddle. Thanks Shaween!
Aloha;
Here is the report from the Battle of the Paddle. It was an incredible event, over three hundred competitors and lots of fun (and a bit of carnage). With what seemed like a thousand spectators on the beach, the SURF EXPO and the top SUP racers in the country here to compete in the 2009 Battle of the Paddle, you know it was a huge success.

Here’s a delayed update from the Duke’s OceanFest 2009 SUP Race held last August 23-29. I was pretty excited for this race and trained for it by paddling a few downwinders a week. Last year’s conditions provided winds that seemed under 10 mph and I wasn’t sure what the tide was. My time to finish last year was 1:55 so I thought that if I could get anywhere between 1:40 to 1:45 I would be doing fine. What I didn’t realize, is how much better the competition would get.
Here’s the result of the 20th Annual Haleiwa Joe’s Labor Day Paddleboard Race. I wasn’t able to race in this one but I heard it was fun. Continue reading ‘20th Annual Haleiwa Joe’s Labor Day Paddleboard Race Results’

First annual Dolphin Paddleboard Race, Carmel is just over a week away!
This 9 mile paddleboard Race honors the memories Ryan Field and Alex Robbins, two well-loved local surfers who left the lineup much too soon. The picturesque course takes paddlers on a technical, scenic tour of local landmarks as they race for prizes and glory, from the start at Carmel Beach, to Stillwater Cove, the legendary Ghost Tree, across the deep water Carmel Canyon to Point Lobos, Monastery Beach, Carmel River State Beach and finally back to the start.
