Molokai to Oahu – 32 mile Crossing across the Ka’iwi Channel. Before this race I felt so prepared because that week I ate super good, drank lots of water and rested. My mom and I went over to Molokai Friday night on the Ferry to Kaunakakai. Then headed over to the west side and stayed at the condos right where the event was. I slept in on Saturday and then went for a swim – I basically had a super relaxing day. Around 5:00 the race meeting started and then I had a huge dinner and went back to the room – and went right to bed to get a good night sleep. I had my last 6 man canoe regatta in the morning at Keehi Lagoon for the OHCRA Oahu Championships and then raced over to the finish line at Maunalua Bay for the Molokai to Oahu Race. I only shot 2 short video clips, the first with Dave Kalama who won by a lot and the second with Jim Hayes, the owner of Tropical Blends Surf on Queen St here in Honolulu. Famous GPS Will Prove that 32-Mile Channel Isn’t Always 32 Miles Across!
Todd Bradley to Host GPS & Finish Line Clinic, Wednesday July 21
With more Molokai Channel crossings to his name than years on Earth, you could be excused for thinking that Todd Bradley could paddle the Molokai2Oahu paddleboard race blind-folded; 2010 will be his 53rd crossing at 50 years of age. But through all his seafaring, Bradley has learned two things when it comes to the ocean: No two days are the same; and the Molokai Channel isn’t always 32 miles across! The Mormaii 27 Mile Pailolo Express held on Sunday July 11th. Otherwise know as the Maui to Molokai Crossing. The first time I did this crossing I was 8 1/2 years old – and I windsurfed across it. But this time I did it – I WON FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!

Kaunakakai, Hawaii-
The Mormaii Molokai Pailolo Express Race presented by Standup Paddle Magazine lived up to expectation Sunday as gusts as high as 20 knots delivered the goods for 28 Elite paddlers. Known for it’s “Lolo” (crazy) running current and wind, the 10:10 AM start gave way to a light mist at the line from Honolua Bay, Maui with a sense of calmness before heading straight into the rum line.

With over 140 entries, this is the largest field in the history of the event and the first time the race has sold out, illustrating record international participation with particular growth in stand-up paddleboard (SUP) racing. It was a beautiful day for Da Hui’s annual 4th of July race. Here’s a recap from Robert Stehlik from Blue Planet Surf.
Going to the beautiful North Shore on Independence day for the Hui race has become somewhat of a tradition for our family. With clear water, blue skies and light tradewinds, the North Shore once again served up a beautiful day for the most popular paddleboard/ SUP race on Oahu (with the exception of this year’s Battle of the Paddle). The race results show a total of 478 finishers with of which 309 were stand up paddlers, an impressive turnout. The wind was very light in Honolulu but when we got closer to the start at Sunset beach, there were whitecaps and conditions looked good. The crew from Da Hui once again put together a great event.

Anthony Vela Wins 2010
Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial
Paddleboard Race
July 2, 2010 (Santa Cruz, Ca) – When LA County Lifeguard, Anthony Vela told his paddling co-horts that he would be driving north to compete in the 9th Annual Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race in Santa Cruz, Ca. last weekend rather than head south to the Waterman Challenge in San Diego, they couldn’t understand why. “The Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race has always been my favorite race of the year. Fast paddlers, fast course, and lots of Aloha.” Continue reading ‘Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race Title Returns to Southern California’
