First annual Dolphin Paddleboard Race, Carmel is just over a week away!
This 9 mile paddleboard Race honors the memories Ryan Field and Alex Robbins, two well-loved local surfers who left the lineup much too soon. The picturesque course takes paddlers on a technical, scenic tour of local landmarks as they race for prizes and glory, from the start at Carmel Beach, to Stillwater Cove, the legendary Ghost Tree, across the deep water Carmel Canyon to Point Lobos, Monastery Beach, Carmel River State Beach and finally back to the start. The King and Queen of Dogpatch will be held Saturday May 16, 2009 at San Onofre State Beach. This raucous and hilarious stand-up paddleboard (SUP) surf contest will directly benefit the newly formed San Onofre Foundation.
The best stand-up paddleboard surfers from California and Hawaii are anticipated to join local standouts at Dogpatch to surf it out for the King and Queen crowns.

A couple of days ago, Duke sent us these photos of professional surfer, Noah Shimabukuro in action at the Central Surf SUP Contest in Puerto Escondido Mexico. Riding a Takayama 10’3” Tuflite from Surftech, Noah bagged the grand prize in the first Central Surf SUP contest besting other contenders from Mexico, California, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. I know these pics were circulated a while back but they are still impressive.
