Trials Completed in giant surf
The giant surf continued today as we picked up where we left off with the Sunset Beach Pro, presented by Turtle Bay Resort, with the quarterfinals of the Trials. As the heats progressed it was clear that power and local knowledge were advantageous, as Chuck Patterson from Dana Point and Haley Fiske from San Francisco showcased the power approach, and Pomai Hoapili, with his no compromise approach to riding big Sunset, demonstrated the local advantage. Turtle Bay Expression Session
On Saturday Turtle Bay hosted an expression session as a precursor to the Sunset Beach Pro. Kai Lenny, Robin Johnston, Kala Alexander, Mo Freitas, Antoine Delpero, and Leco Salazar all took part in the event. Stand Up Paddleboard Race
It started in 2008 as an “Expression Session”. Since then the Surftech Shootout has quickly become one of the most competitive and prestigious SUP surf events in the world. In association with the Santa Cruz Paddlefest, March 18-20th, many of the world’s top SUP surfers will once again converge upon the town of Santa Cruz, California and battle it out in the waters of the legendary Steamer Lane.

The Big Island of Hawaii provided the perfect setting for the climactic Finals of the 2010 Stand Up World Tour, with a welcome that surpassed any and all expectations, showcasing the true spirit of Aloha. From the County and its dynamic leader Mayor Billy Kenoi, to the support mechanism of the Paka crew at Honoli’i and our Big Island ambassador, Kalani Kahalioumi, the Big Island provided us with a welcome like no other, as they rolled out the red carpet for the 2010 Stand Up World Tour Finals.

The Waterman League is proud to announce that the Island of Hawaii, otherwise known as the Big Island, will host the climactic Finals of the Stand Up World Tour for 2010. From the 10th – 19th December, all eyes will be on Honoli’i, on the North East of the Big Island for a fitting conclusion to a spectacular year for the Stand Up World Tour and its athletes. Salazar wins the 4th stop of the Stand Up World Tour
After a fiercely fought out main event for the Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest, it was Brazil’s Leco Salazar who was to be crowned Champion at the 4th stop of the Stand Up World Tour for 2010. In challenging double overhead surf, Leco proved that he was every bit the threat he promised to be and came out victorious despite the strong challenges from Hawaii’s Kai Lenny, and France’s Antoine Delpero and Peyo Lizarazu. His wave selection was unbeatable, and his critical riding phenomenal – congratulations to Leco, a very worth Champion. Stop 4 of the Stand Up World Tour now underway
The Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest is now underway, with the Trials starting here in South Brazil this morning. All the principal contenders are here, inclusive of the two front runners right now, Hawaii’s Kai Lenny and France’s Peyo Lizarazu. Also vying to build on their success in previous events are Stop 2 Champion in France winner Antoine Delpero and Australia’s Dave Muir, Champion at Stop 3 in Tahiti.

Kamu Auwae Wins C4 Waterman SUP Surf-Off
Leleo Kinimaka Awarded Waterman of the Event
HONOLULU – Friday, August 27, 2010 – Kamu Auwae (Waianae) emerged the king of the waves at Duke’s OceanFest, Waikiki, today, claiming the C4 Waterman stand-up paddle (SUP) “Surf-Off”. His victory came one day after winning the Toes on the Nose pro longboard event at the same venue.
