Hawaii to provide a complete showcase of SUP Surfing at the World Tour Opener in February
Oahu’s Fabled North Shore to play host the ultimate Open to the 2015 Season
From the 6th 18th February, Oahu’s North Shore will play host to the most complete SUP Surfing spectacle of the year, featuring World Tour Openers for both Men and Women, the Na Kama Kai Youth Challenge and Clinic, not to mention the Tribute to the Legends, honoring the leading figures and pioneers of the ever evolving, but well rooted Ocean Sport culture.
It will all kick off at Turtle Bay on 6th February with the Women, Legends and kids and then transition onto Sunset on the 10th, as the 2015 season will be kicked off in style.
The 6th annual Sunset Beach Pro to continue the World Tour’s legacy in Hawaii
The 6th Annual Sunset Beach Pro is one of the jewels of the Stand Up World Tour, having seen some of the most impressive conditions of any event, with High Surf Advisories running through 4 out of the 5 events and some of the most immaculate Sunset Beach you could ever hope for.
In 2014, it was a more challenging playing field as wind and stormier surf played into the equation and athletes had their work cut out to make it through to the elusive finals. In the end it was Caio Vaz (Art in Surf) from Brazil who made history, but being the first non Hawaiian to take the prestigious Sunset Beach Pro Title.
As we look ahead to 2015 after the most fiercely competitive year to date on the Stand Up World Tour, we see World Class talent stepping up from all four corners of the world, as the World’s best will take that first step towards a 2015 World Title.
Will 2014 World Champion Kai Lenny (Naish) be able to regain his TItle? Will 2013 Sunset Beach Pro Champion Caio Vaz be able to step up again? Will the local Hawaiian melting pot of talent be able to repeat Bonga Perkins’ buzzer beater in 2011 to take the win at this prestigious Opening event?
Only time will tell as we will be building up through the month of January to this incredible event, an all new World Championship Season and bringing you the action live from the 10th – 18th February at www.watermanleague.com
The Turtle Bay Women’s Pro to provide the perfect opener to the 2015 season
The 3rd annual Turtle Bay Women’s Pro will bring the world’s best women back to Oahu’s fabled North Shore for a dramatic Opening event to kick of the 2015 season. The event will take place from the 6th – 12th February.
2014 saw epic conditions at Turtle Bay, as the women’s division stepped up to the plate and embraced the challenge. In the end, it was 2013 World Champion Nicole Pacelli from Brazil who repeated her 2012 victory at Turtle Bay, followed by Candice Appleby from the USA in 2nd and Sophia Tiare Bartlow in 3rd, also from the USA.
2014 World Champion went onto win every other event on Tour in 2014, so will Izzi be able to crack the one win eluding her here in Hawaii as she will kick off her Tile campaign in January, or will Nicole Pacelli continue her reign? Or will it be local talent such as Mariko Strickland (Naish), Halie Harrison and Vanina Walsh (Starboard) cause major upsets at this Opening event of the 2015 season?
Time will tell as we build up to what will be an epic World Tour Opener at Turtle Bay, so stay with us at watermanleague.com
