Crowning of the 2012 World Champion at Turtle Bay
So join us back on the North Shore of Oahu at Turtle Bay (HQ for the Waterman League) just prior to the Sunset Beach Pro on the 6th February 2013, as the World’s best will gather once again for the first event of the 2013 season, but also to celebrate the crowning of the 2012 World Champion.
Leco Salazar’s name will join that of Kai Lenny on the beautiful hand crafted Alaia board on display at Surfer the Bar as history is made and the Title and trophy changes hands in advance of the 2013 season.
Turtle Bay will also host the Na Kama Kai Youth Challenge for U16 talent from all over the world to show their support for Stand Up Paddlesurfing’s future, as well as a Na Kama Kai clinic for the North Shore and East side’s underprivileged youth. Stay tuned for the build up to this incredible season opener back in Stand Up Paddlesurfing’s birthplace.
Next up: the Sunset Beach Pro from the 7th-15th February
Next up, the now iconic Sunset Beach Pro that will take place from the 7th – 15th February on Oahu’s fabled North Shore. Stay tuned for a build up to this unique event, that will see the return of some of the heavyweight Hawaiians as they step up to do battle with the World’s very best. As we saw in 2012, they are dangerous, highlighted by Bonga Perkins’ win and Ikaika Kalama’s finals berth.
However, 2x World Champion and 2x winner at Sunset will be looking to restake his claim on the event and the World Title in February, as the journey towards the coveted Title picks up again and the action turns on. Powerful Frenchman and 2010 vice World Champion Peyo Lizarazu will also be back to keep his 100% record of Finals finishes at Sunset alive.
So stay tuned for the live broadcast from the Sunset Beach Pro as the 2013 season kicks off from the 7th – 15th February. Mele Kalikimaka (Happy Christmas) and a Hui Hou.
