The Location X Finals will be broadcast live from the BVI

The Location X Finals presented by The Moorings and in association with Finlandia and Starboard will be broadcast live from the British Virgin Islands starting Tuesday next week. The live feed brought to you by DIgicel 4G will bring you the action as it unfolds for what is the most dramatic close the Stand Up World Tour has ever seen.

We have 3 main Title Contenders and even a 4th with an outside shot, as it all comes down to the wire in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. You can watch it live at www.locationxfinals.com / www.standupworldtour.com, so make sure to tune in as history is made in what will be the most unique event yet on the Stand Up World Tour.

The TItle Race intensifies after the Ubatuba Pro, Brazil

So we have a new situation after Stop 4 of the Stand UP World Tour in Brazil that was brought to you by Art in Surf, WG, Fluir Stand Up, Waves and SUP Club: Sean Poynter (Starboard) is still in the ratings lead after his 5th place finish in Brazil, but by just 2.3 points. This means that to be safe, Sean will need to get to the Finals in order to secure his first ever World Title.

Sean has had a great year so far this year, moving into the lead after his win in Tahiti in May, proving that he does have what it takes to come out on top, something he will be looking to repeat this week to secure what can only be described as a fiercely fought out World Title.

Leco Salazar edges ahead of Kai Lenny in the World ratings

After an impressive performance at home in Brazil (watch the highlights from the Ubatuba Pro), Leco Salazar edges ahead of Kai Lenny (Naish) in the overall World Rankings, but by just a point. Their crucial semi final heat in Brazil meant that Kai moves to 3rd in the rankings, but by just a point.

Like Sean, Leco needs to make the final and win ahead of Kai Lenny, but also ensure that Sean Poynter (Starboard) finishes in 3rd or worse. If this is the case, we will have a new Brazilian Champion of the World and as you can see, one of the most nail biting closes to the action packed season.

Kai Lenny slips to 3rd, but remains in striking distance

While Kai Lenny (Naish) has slipped back to 3rd overall on the World Rankings coming into this all important Final event, he is just a point behind Leco Salazar, meaning that as long as he finishes in front of Leco, he will finish above him on the rankings.

Meanwhile, in order to beat Sean Poynter (Starboard), he really needs to win the event and Sean finish in 4th or worse in order to retain his World Title. Of course he could finish lower, but Sean would also have to finish lower by the same degree for Kai to secure the win here in the British Virgin Islands.

So it is very much all to play for as we come down to the wire for the Location X Finals on the Stand Up World Tour, presented by The Moorings.

Robin Johnston has his work cut out, but still in contention

Robin Johnston (Mistral) is also still within striking distance, although he does have a lot to achieve and needs for the other 3 Contenders to all do worse than anticipated in this final showown of the year. So while it is a long shot, Robin’s consistency and strong performances throughout the year might push him back into contention.

Justin Holland is climbing fast with a string of good results

After a 5th place finish in Brazil, following on from his 3rd place in Tahiti, Australia’s Justin Holland (Starboard) is gradually climbing his way up the rankings and will be looking for a strong finish here in the British Virgin Islands. As one of the on form surfers in Brazil, Justin has every chance to cause some real upsets here in the Caribbean waters of the British Virgin Islands.

Prestigious field of athletes to provide unsurpassed display

Fitting of a World Championship Final, the selection of athletes attending the Location X Finals is unparalleled. Representing the presitigious Top 16 in the World, plus 2 wildcards, this unique waterbased event aboard The Moorings yachts will provide not only some of the most spectacular action yet, but will showcase the most intensely fought out final event on the Stand Up World Tour.

Watch as dark horses such as Hawaiian, Duane DeSoto will be joined by California’s Dave Boehne, not to mention the young upstarts such as Keahi de Aboitiz (JP Australia) from Australia and Connor Baxter (Starboard) from Maui. As always, you can count on Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) coming back strong after a tough year, but also breakout athlete from the last event in Brazil, Mo Freitas, who is without doubt on a major role right now.

Art in Surf’s Ian and Caio Vaz will also be looking to consolidate on their positions on Tour, with Ian coming off a 5th place in Brazil and Caio, a great start to the year in Hawaii and France, looking for a strong finish here in the BVI. While other youngster and lone Frenchman, Benoit Carpentier will be looking to continue his incredible streak and consolidate on his 6th place overall so far in 2012, but will also meet the likes of fellow Naish rider from Oahu, Noa Ginella and the remaining Aussie contingent, Big Wave Dave Muir (Starboard) and Beau Nixon (Naish).

The BVI open their arms to world’s best stand up paddlers

The British Virgin Islands have opened their arms wholeheartedly to the World’s best stand up paddlesurfers on the Stand Up World Tour. This beautiful chain of islands provides the perfect canvas for this final showdown of the year, as the athletes will experience the ultimate in waterbased adventures aboard The Moorings yachts.

With Finlandia’s social schedule in place supported by Road Town Wholesale, the week promises to be one to remember, both on and off the water. It will all start on Tuesday morning with a welcome breakfast at the beautiful Myett’s in the heart of the iconic Cane Garden Bay. Wednesday night will feature a beach party at Myett’s before the athletes head out through the island chain to land at the Bitter End on Friday, for a Na Kama Kai Youth Clinic, but also a social event to remember.
