Check out the highlights from last weekend’s racing at the Turtle Bay Summer Paddle Challenge presented by Pacifico and Naish.

A beautiful weekend of racing saw Maui’s Connor Baxter (Starboard) and New Zealand’s Annabel Anderson (Starboard) secure the win in the Men’s and Women’s divisions respectively, with an inaugural downwind run from Hukilau Beach to Turtle Bay, and the now infamous World Series Sprint Course in front of Hang Ten Bar at Turtle Bay.

Cocoa Beach opens its arms to Stand Up World Series

As the surf and SUP industry head to Orlando for the Surf Expo in early September, so does the Stand Up World Series, as the beautiful beach city of Cocoa Beach will come alive for one of 3 major World Series stops on the US Mainland.

Hosted by the International Palms Resort Cocoa Beach, situated right by Lori Wilson Park, the Cocoa Beach Paddle Classic is brought to you by Pacifico, Starboard and in association with Maui Jim Eyewear.

World’s best SUP Racers will be heading to Cocoa Beach

From World Series leader Connor Baxter (Starboard) and arch rival and current #2 Kai Lenny, to Slater Trout, Europe’s leading light Eric Terrien (Bic SUP), Mexico’s Ryan Helm and Fernando Stalla (Rogue) and leading lady on the World Series Annabel Anderson (Starboard), the field will be stacked and the action intense.

The Cocoa Beach Paddle Classic will also open its arms to Florida’s extensive paddle community, with access for all and a unique event format that will provide something for everyone. In addition to the World Series 12′6 class (that is open to everyone), there will be a SUP 14′ and prone divisions for the long distance race, providing a complete showcase of paddle sports at Cocoa Beach.

Stand Up World Tour stars to step up at Cocoa Beach

Some of the Stand Up World Tour’s leading lights will be on show at the exhibition surf sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings (8th – 9th September).

From Current Ratings leader (and Florida native) Sean Poynter (Starboard) and 2x World Champion Kai Lenny (Naish), to wildman Zane Schweitzer (Starboard), 2011 Stand Up World Tour Rookie of the year Kody Kerbox (Naish) and many more, Cocoa Beach will host a showcase some of the most cutting edge and progressive SUP surfing imaginable at this mid year point on the Stand Up World Tour Season.

The expression sessions will take place between 8am and 11am on Saturday 8th and between 7am and 9am on Sunday 12th, so stay tuned for some mind blowing action from Florida’s most celebrated surf community.

World Series feature Long distance to Cocoa Beach Pier

The Long distance will feature a beach start and head out from in front of the International Palms Resort and head up the coastline to Cocoa Beach Pier, feature a couple of buoy turns that will take in the key focal points in the area and head back for a beach finish at the event HQ. Detailed course maps and race info will follow online at www.standupworldseries.com.

The Long distance will take place on Saturday 8th afternoon from 2.30pm onwards and will be celebrated that evening at Mambo’s Bar and Grill, beachfront at the International Palms Resort.

World Series Sprint format takes advantage of the surf

The dynamic World Series Sprint format will take advantage of surf zone in Cocoa Beach providing an exciting course and a visual spectacle for the audience out front of International Palms Resort. The short ‘M’ shaped sprint course will consist of a beach start and finish and go in and out of the surf zone.

With a heat elimination format and repechage built in, there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone, as athletes will battle their way through the rounds to the climactic finals.

The World Series Sprint racing will take place on Sunday 9th between 10 and 12.30pm, with a break for lunch (and for the hottest part of the day), and then the final rounds between 3pm and 5.30pm.

The prestigious Awards Ceremony will then take place on stage directly afterwards to celebrate the close of this dramatic World Series event taking place on the East Coast of the Mainland US.

Na Kama Kai Youth Clinic to take place on Saturday 11th

Between 11am and 2pm, the Waterman League will put on a special ‘Na Kama Kai’ event for Cocoa Beach’s underprivileged youth, getting them out on the water and on boards for a unique experience in the company of the world’s best.

Inspired by Founder Duane DeSoto’s vision for ocean education, Na Kama Kai is a Hawaii non profit providing ocean sports and awareness clinics for the youth of Hawaii, and through its partnership with the Waterman League, in all 4 corners of the world through the League’s extensive network of events.

We are proud to represent Na Kama Kai in Florida and bring a piece of Hawaii to the Cocoa Beach Paddle Classic that celebrates a communal love for the ocean and its sports. The Waterman League to present at Orlando Surf Expo

The Waterman League will be putting on a major presentation at the Surf Expo in Orlando on Thursday 6th September at 1pm on the Main Stage. The presentation will present 2013 schedules for both World Series and World Tour events, but also the new athlete and organizational structure for both professional sporting platforms.

Highlights will be put out online and all information to follow at both www.standupworldtour.com and www.standupworldseries.com so stay tuned, even if you aren’t able to make it to the show.

Huntington Beach & World Championship Finals, Oahu

Coming next after Florida, is the Huntington Beach Pro Grand Slam event, that will feature both World Tour surfing and World Series Racing events. From the 2nd – 8th October, Surf City USA will be transformed into a global epicenter for the World’s very best Stand Up Paddlers as they step up to do battle south of the Pier.

The Stand Up World Tour component will run from the 2nd – 8th October, while the Stand Up World Series will run from the 6th – 8th October.

This will lead almost directly into the climactic World Championship Finals at Turtle Bay from the 12th – 14th October. The hotel fills fast, so book now quotiong the Stand Up World Series special athlete rate at Turtle Bay for this presitigious culmination of the 2012 Racing season. (rate applicable for athletes only).
