Do ya feel lucky? If you are feelin’ lucky or simply want to enjoy a fun day of paddling in beautiful Northern California, grab your trusty 12′6, 14′ or whatever suits your fancy and roll into Santa Cruz on March 19th for the Surftech Surf & Sand Duel-athlon presented by SUP Magazine. The “Duel-athlon” is an SUP race featuring a 6-mile Elite course and a 3-mile Short Course. In conjunction with the 3rd Annual Surftech Shootout at Steamer Lane, the race is part of the 25th Annual Santa Cruz Paddlefest, the famous annual kick-off to the Nor Cal paddle season.
Racing enthusiasts, get ready, because The Duel-athlon will challenge you on two levels. Not only your SUP skills, but a short beach sprint between paddles will get your legs revitalized. The paddle course runs along side the Santa Cruz Wharf (you’ll hear the local sea lions barking encouragement), out to the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor, then back to the beach. After a short beach run along the Santa Cruz Beach Board walk, “Short Course” competitors will find their finish line and send the Elite Competitors back into the kelp beds towards the infamous Steamer Lane. Elite competitors will then head back towards the Yacht Harbor, back to the SC Wharf and finish it off with a sand sprint to the finish line in front of the Dream Inn.
Watch out as many of stand up paddling’s “sharpest shooters” will battle it out including reining Battle of the Paddle Hawaii and California champ Candice Appleby, former Battle of the Paddle champion Chuck Patterson, Santa Barbara young gun Matt Becker and Oregon’s Dan Gavere, along with hundreds of eager racing enthusiasts. Elite racers will not only battle for bragging rights, there will also be a small prize purse going to both the Men’s and Women’s Elite winners!

“Desperados” Mens (Short Course Unlimited Division – Above 12′6″)
“Desperados” Womens (Short Course Unlimited Division – Above 12′6″)
Entry fee is $50 if registered before 4pm March 18, 2011
Entry fee increases to $65 after 4pm March 18th, 2011
