ALOHA sports and suncare fans…
A Hawaiian Punch of Paddling with Anna Mathisen, the Kailua Canoe Club and a Big Hat.
Anna Mathisen and maiden mates from the Kailua Canoe Club took on the 33 mile E Lau Hoe women’s canoe race, padding to a fifth place finish. The Kailua Canoe club had 3 women’s teams in the top 10 of over 50 crews- a stellar achievement. Sights set now on the “Big One” – the Na Wahine O Ke Kai — the women’s Molokai-to-Oahu championship race on 26 September. A shot of Anna and crew digging in. Planet Sun also on site suncare support at the recent “Race Around the Hat” OC-1 (one man) paddling race . Staged at and around the famous China Man’s Hat on Oahu’s east shore making for a beautiful and challenging venue. Paddle On.

Zane Schweitzer is the grandson of the guy that invented the windsurfer so it’s not surprising that he’s an accomplished windsurfer along with being a great stand up paddler. In the video below, Zane gives beginner some advice. Also, see what Zane means by the paddle being his ‘third leg’.

Here’s a preview of the new Surftech carbon paddle. They have a full carbon model and a carbon/fiberglass model. Both are really light and I was surprised how light the carbon/fiberglass version is. The largest blade size is 9.5″, a bit large for my personal taste but perfect for outrigger paddling. I ended up cutting one of these paddles down to 52″ and use it with my OC-1. I love it for OC-1. It weighs 15 oz which is lighter than my Apple iPad. Continue reading ‘Surftech San-O Carbon Stand Up Paddle’

Here’s demo of the Surf Nano Product (SNP) by Tom Warnke. This was shot at the Hawaii Battle of the Paddle 2010. I did a test with this stuff in an earlier post but I thought I’d get the demo on video straight from the horse’s mouth. SNP is supposed to make your board faster by reducing friction and drag. You’ll have to test it for yourself.

I was walking by the live interviews at the Hawaii Battle of the Paddle 2010 when I saw Kaipo Guerrero interviewing Todd Bradley from C4. They were reminiscing about the early days of stand up paddling. I thought I’d video the interview too and here it is:

Salazar wins the 4th stop of the Stand Up World Tour
After a fiercely fought out main event for the Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest, it was Brazil’s Leco Salazar who was to be crowned Champion at the 4th stop of the Stand Up World Tour for 2010. In challenging double overhead surf, Leco proved that he was every bit the threat he promised to be and came out victorious despite the strong challenges from Hawaii’s Kai Lenny, and France’s Antoine Delpero and Peyo Lizarazu. His wave selection was unbeatable, and his critical riding phenomenal – congratulations to Leco, a very worth Champion. Read more about the event and checkout the highlight videos that are going up today at the all new www.standupworldtour.com.
