Recap of the BOP Event in California by Connor Baxter
Another great event here in California at the 2010 Dana Point Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle. There were a total of five races involved with the Battle of the Paddle over 2 days. There is the main event, which is the Elite race, the Open Age group race, Distance race, Team Relay, and the Kids race. I competed in the Elite race, Open Age group, Distance race, and Team Relay.

Two Words: UN, REAL. Thousands of Paddlers, to include the best of breed, gather in Dana Point, California annually for this “world series of paddling” event. Mr. Sunshine on site with suncare offerings- stoked to be part of it, and Planet Sun Waterman hero Duane DeSoto competed. Staged at Doheny State Beach, the event boasted a 2 day venue of distance, sprint, and relay races. Delicious SoCal backdrops, bods and vibe all included free of charge – see the first pic. Big Island to host the Stand Up World Tour Finals
The Waterman League is proud to announce that the Island of Hawaii, otherwise known as the Big Island, will host the climactic Finals of the Stand Up World Tour for 2010. From the 10th – 19th December, all eyes will be on Honoli’i, on the North East of the Big Island for a fitting conclusion to a spectacular year for the Stand Up World Tour and its athletes. With a Title Race now firmly in place between Hawaii’s Kai Lenny and France’s Peyo Lizarazu, Honoli’i will provide the perfect setting for the final showdown between these two phenomenal athletes. Connor Baxter, winner of the 2010 Duke’s Oceanfest Race and a number of others gives us some tips on becoming better paddlers. He gives a quick overview on his Starboard equipment and then gets into the paddling techniques. Connor gives some tips to beat the ‘older guys’…you know, like 18 year olds. One thing to note is that this kid is really fast…probably faster than you think.

I was at Blue Planet Surf’s Ward Ave. store and Robert Stehlik showed me a SUP trainer he developed using components from a rowing machine. Robert gave an overview of the SUP training machine and I tested it out along with another customer named Peter.
