Last week Shonny Vanlaningham placed second overall at the the XTERRA Eastern Championships in Richmond VA. A spectacular showdown ensued and continues among the top 3 PRO ladies of the sport- Shonny, Melanine McQuaid and “Swiss Miss”, Renata Bucher. I visited Luke Evslin at the Kamanu Composites Factory in Kailua on Kapa’a Quarry Road to learn more about the Pueo OC-1 and the basics of the canoe. Being a newbie to OC-1, I wanted to get the basics from someone with experience before testing everything out. I know some of this may be very basic for those with experience but for the newbie crowd, this will be very helpful and informative. This is OC-1 101.

June 14th, 2010, Santa Cruz, CA – Covewater Paddle Surf, the first dedicated stand-up paddleboard shop in Northern California, announced today that they will be the presenting sponsor of the Surftech Jay Moriarty Memorial Paddleboard Race taking place June 26th at New Brighton State Beach. Now in its ninth year, the open ocean event commemorates the great Santa Cruz Waterman Jay Moriarty. Proceeds benefit the Santa Cruz County Junior Lifeguard Programs specifically to purchase paddleboards and provide scholarships in Jay’s name.
