A 30 Mile Marathon Standup Paddle to Help Support Christopher’s Haven

We are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Cape Cod Bay Challenge Event. On August 15, 2009, a small group of stand-up paddle surfers will attempt a grueling marathon paddle across Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth to Provincetown. Each has trained for months to prepare for this event to raise money to help these kids deal with a devastating challenge. Standup Paddlers from as far as Illinois, California, Hawaii and the UK are coming out to show their support for this the longest event of its kind on the east coast.

The group will launch from Plymouth harbor at approximately 6:30 am and weather permitting land at about 1:30 pm in Provincetown. We plan to rock the dock with our fund raiser/after party that will be held at the Surf Club from 2:00 until 5:00 sponsored by Wachusett Brewing Company’s RYDE Beer. Come join us and be treated to one of the hottest bands around, The Nate Mott Band., welcome the paddlers when they arrive, and cool down with a couple of Ryde’s.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Christopher’s Haven, a 501-c3 non-profit dedicated to helping kids and their families while they deal with cancer treatment. Boston’s Mass General Hospital is one of the few places in the world to have a proton beam accelerator for use in the treatment of tumors with highly targeted radiation. Kids from around the world come here for treatment. One thing that doesn’t get covered by insurance is the cost a family incurs for living expenses while their child is treated (typically a 6-8 week stay). Boston is an expensive city to find a hotel room. The haven is a short walk from MGH and allows up to 6 families at a time to stay in a comfortable homelike atmosphere helping to relieve some of the strain from a very difficult time. Christopher’s Haven is a home for kids when cancer hits home. http://www.christophershaven.org/

Stand-up Paddle Surfing is the fastest growing water sport in the world. The beauty, purity and the challenge of this sport make it a wonderful platform to raise funds and awareness for kids and families that could use some help.
