My friend Erik Berglihn from Starboard sent me this picture from a previous trip to Pattaya, Thailand to windsurf and SUP. He stepped on coral and I think a sea urchin and had to go to a Thailand hospital which is a whole story in itself. Check out the meds needed to make sure he didn’t get an infection.

I changed in my Xcel booties a while back for these 5 finger ones by Vibram. I did it because the sole is thicker and gives more protection against sea urchins and sharp rocks. The razor cuts in the sole also give excellent grip. Now that I’m used to the 5 toe feeling, other booties feels uncomfortable. They feel like putting a sock on your hand versus a glove. I’d almost rather get cut on the reef and get reef rash than have ‘Wana’ sea urchin stingers in my foot. I was surfing out at Kaiser’s a while back although I never go there normally. I went to meet a friend staying at the Hilton to let him try my stand up board but it was windy and choppy and he got frustrated. Since I was there, I decided to go surf at Kaiser’s. This was sent in by Erik who works with Starboard. I got a chance to spend some time with him on a recent trip to Thailand and have to say that he is a great guy. Very humble and gracious. I was supposed to go with them on this journey but ran out of time. Looks like I missed out. Here’s what he had to say on what looked like an awesome SUP session in Thailand.
I have been visiting Bangkok for about 3 weeks now, and together with locals I have explored the city and the surrounding areas. Back home in Norway, i just started SUP this summer and every time I went out in the ocean, boats approached and wanted to “save” me.

Tommy Chorman from www.freedomridingco.com sent this to me and I had to post it up. After watching this I know that I have no excuses not to get out in the water.

I think that a quiver of downwind boards is going to be preferable…at least for me and my lack of endurance and paddling skills. I just finished the Coast Guard race this morning which was basically just paddling. There was no wind except for maybe 2 gusts I felt but still under 10 mph. I caught a couple good runners but that was about it for me. Continue reading ‘Thoughts on Downwind SUP Stand Up Boards’

I didn’t get any good video shots of the Duke’s Race but shot this short clip before it started so people can see what others were using. I should have gone around more and waited a while because the amount of boards and people were impressive. Continue reading ‘Duke’s Oceanfest SUP Stand UP Race 2008′

I know we’ve all see the “Keep Country Country” bumper stickers. I just saw this the other day on a car and had to take a picture of it and post it.
