Angulo 11′9″ Stand Up Paddle Downwinder Video

This is a short clip of me on a downwind run with my friend Kekoa.  I’m on my Angulo 11′9″ and using a Leleo custom wood paddle.   This is nothing really eventful but I thought it would be nice for people to see what Blackpoint looks like from the water.

Infinity Surf Shop’s Ottertail Blade Stand Up Paddle – Review

Infinity Surf Shop's Ottertail Blade Stand Up Paddle

I got 2 Infinity Surf ottertail paddles for my birthday in November and so far have only been able to test it a number of conditions. At first I was leery of this paddle but I have since changed my mind. This is what I’ve been using for the last few weeks.

Boardworks Stewart 11-6 Step Deck Stand Up Paddle Surfboard – Video Preview

We get to see another board design at Wet Feet, a Bill Stewart 11′6″ step deck manufactured by Boardworks. One standing feature of this board is the step deck, which you’ll see on the video.

It has a double-wing pin tail, which can handle fast and steep waves like a long board. The board is typically designed for big guys — a thick 5 and 16th inch thick middle plus a tapered nose and tail.

Glassy Stand Up Paddle Surfing on 11-3-07 at Tongg’s with Carnet, Harris and Mark

I was out last month at Tongg’s with buddies Carnet, Harris and Mark. We’re switching back and forth between the C4 10′6″ and Paddle Surf Hawaii 10′6″. We also had some pretty funny wipe outs.

Makai Softop 11 Ft Stand Up Paddle Surfboard at Wet Feet Hawaii – Video Preview

Wet Feet Hawaii Stand Up Paddle Surf Store

We get a short preview of the Makai Softop 11 Ft Stand Up Paddle Surfboard from the guys at Wet Feet. As we see on the video, the board has a soft deck ideally for people who are concerned about landing on the board hard or want something that is family and user-friendly.

The performance is manageable for a board of this type. I think this is good as an entry-level board.

Dave Parmenter’s brief run-down on the new C4 waterman VORTICE XP Karel-built Carbon race board:

I took out the C4waterman VORTICE XP board, the CARBON 21-pounder. After paddling about 6 miles in light winds and flat small seas, I ended up with the following impressions:

Tom Carroll at Paddle Surf Hawaii with Blane Chambers

I was at Paddle Surf Hawaii’s store/office getting a new paddle surf 10′6″ gun and who walks in but the legendary 2x world champion surfer Tom Carroll. I guess Tom’s super into stand up paddle surfing and was looking to build his quiver with some PSH gear. He also uses a Kialoa Kole stand up paddle.

Steve Boehne of Infinity Surf About Fin Configuration

Infinity Surf Custom Stand Up Paddle Board 10 ft Quad

When I got the Infinity Quad I was trying to figure out what fin setup to use and what the difference would be. Here’s a Q&A with Steve Boehne from Infinity Surf with those answers.

The Quad Cluster has five fin boxes. What are the suggested fin setups and what difference will it make in performance?

The first rule is that each guy is different and he should experiment with fin configurations to find his own preference. We normally don’t put 5 boxes in the quads, but we did this one so you could have fun experimenting. Traditionally, a quad has the two largest fins in the front boxes and the smaller twin fins in the rear boxes. You may notice that the front boxes are installed near the rail and towed in and the rear boxes are closer and parallel to the stringer. We found that unlike a short board, which is ok to be kind of “squirrelly”, an SUP feels better with positive directional control. This is achieved by moving the rear fins in and parallel. The center fin is not usually used unless you are riding it as a tri fin thruster or if you really want to make it positive.

Kyle Bernhardt 10′6″ Stand Up Paddle Surfboard Video

Kyle Bernhardt 10'6 Stand Up Paddle Surfboard

This board surfs well as we learn from Jim of Tropical Blends Surf. He adds that he has had one of his longest nose rides on the Bernhardt 10′6″. The rocker is pretty much accentuated on this one to make it perform well on the waves.

There’s a double barrel on both sides but the board is relatively flat all the way. This board maintains a hard edge which Jim says is unusual for mass-produced boards.
